Touchless Fine Dining Etiquette Tips

Touchless Fine Dining Etiquette Tips

Most people know basic dining etiquette. We are aware not to speak with a mouthful of food or make inappropriate comments during the meal. These things are common sense. However, there are some complex etiquette factors to consider when dining in a particularly nice restaurant. Fine dining requires a higher level of manners and etiquette. Below are some examples.

  • Personal belongings - Your cell phone, purse, and keys should not find their way to the top of the table. This is an unnecessary distraction. Keep your belongings put away.
  • Selecting wine - If you are not a wine connoisseur, it is not necessary to pretend otherwise. It is always best to get some advice. Tell the waiter what you are having and what type of wine you typically enjoy. Do not specifically define your price range. Just point to a wine in your price range, explaining that something similar would be appropriate. Do not return the wine, even if you don't like it.
  • The napkin - Of course the napkin goes in your lap. But what do you do with it when you are finished eating? Neatly place it on the left-hand side of your plate or where the plate would have been.
  • Reaching - Reaching is prohibited. Do not reach across the table for any reason.
  • Waiter - When you need the waiter's attention, start by making eye contact. If that does not work, you may use your right hand and index finger to quietly notify the server that you need assistance. Never yell or verbally request the waiter.
  • Courses - Everyone dining together should have the same number of courses. Make sure you order the same number of courses as your dining partners.
  • Business - All discussions of business should take place after the entrĂ©e is complete and not any time before.

These are just a few etiquette tips. Fine dining is enjoyable and relaxing when you are prepared. Go Touchless!
